Mr. Joseph E. Speight, Jr


Mr. Joseph E. Speight, Jr. has been appointed as Interim Head of School at Ideal Academy Public Charter School. 
Mr. Speight brings more than nineteen years of independent school experience to this role by enriching the lives of children, adults, and communities as an education pioneer and leader. With Tier 1 and high performing results as the backdrop to his school leadership efforts, Mr. Speight has marshaled students and staff members alike towards academic and instructional excellence. With expertise in curriculum development and a keen focus on socio-emotional learning, he has changed the trajectory of youth in the Washington, DC area. As the founding board member and partner of the National Association of Black Male Educators, Joseph liaison with local school districts to create a teacher fellowship program designed to increase the number of highly effective male educators of color.
Joseph stands out as a talented educator and dedicated administrator with proven success in preserving core values and preparing a school community to answer challenging headwinds. He has served as a Chief Academic Officer, Principal, Assistant Principal, and Teacher exemplifying his relentless belief in the benefits of a quality education and producing results for children; especially young men of color. During his tenure at Friendship Southeast Elementary Academy, they reached double-digit proficiency gains in Math and Reading leading to Tier One status.
We are thrilled to have Joseph as our Interim Head of School. His many skills and talents, including an innovator’s mindset that is steeped in sound pedagogy and practical application, will safeguard our core values, challenge us to advance in service to our purpose, and guide our Academy through this time of transition.
