A Message from Friendship’s Chief Executive Officer

My Friends at Ideal Academy PCS,

For the past 20 years, Ideal Academy Public Charter School and Friendship Public Charter School have tirelessly served the students of the District of Columbia. From the early days, our organizations have been driven by a shared mission to ensure our city’s most underserved children receive a high-quality education in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Together, Ideal and Friendship have a lot to be proud of. We can be proud of the successes of students and alumni. We can be proud of the commitment and dedication of our staff. We can be proud of the vision of our founders who believe in the potential and promise of every child. I am also proud that today Friendship and Ideal can partner to ensure the continuation of Ideal for the families of Washington, D.C.

As you may know, last night, the PCSB unanimously voted to approve the formal partnership for Friendship PCS to operate the Ideal Academy campus as of the 2019-2020 school year. Friendship will work hand in hand with you to deliver on the Ideal mission with the resources and supports of a multi-campus school network.

I 'm encouraged by the endorsement of Ideal alumna and Friendship Collegiate senior Ednetta Fullmore: “As part of the Friendship Early College Academy, I had the opportunity to take 4 Advanced Placement courses, passing 3 out of 4 exams with a 3 or better score, dual enrollment courses at Arizona State University and Granite College. Friendship also has a partnership with the OSSE Summer Enrichment Program that allowed me to attend Barnard College this past summer. Most exciting of all my experiences at Collegiate, I have been awarded a Posse Scholarship and will be attending Lafayette College in the Fall 2019.”

She concludes her endorsement by saying, “Friendship has a proven track record of preparing students for life and to become lifelong learners to contribute activity to their community. Friendship has made me far more focused and driven. Because I have had an opportunity to do so many things under Friendship, it has made me want to “grind” and have a better understanding that I can do anything that I can imagine. I endorse Friendship’s partnership with Ideal Academy. I am excited to even think that Friendship may have my four siblings, three who presently attend Ideal Academy and one who will be attending next year. I know that with them starting Friendship earlier, they can do even greater things.

Over the next few weeks and months, we will join with students, families and staff to explore your hopes and dreams for Friendship Ideal. As we embrace a new year, let us be emboldened by the promise of doing “even greater things” for the families of Ideal.

It’s going to be a lot of work, but anything good always is.

I wish you much rest and relaxation with your family and friends during this time of year.

Sincerely,

Patricia A. Brantley, CEO
